We're just north of the Norfolk-Southern railroad tracks, looking north. That first house in the old photo is still there, but now it's hidden behind the evergreen trees from this angle.
See? Still there.
There were no houses on the east side of the street because the brickyard was over there. That dark object at the extreme right of the old photo looks like a boxcar, does it not? It wouldn't surprise me if the brickyard had its own rail siding. No trace of it now, however.
