Not a particularly pretty flower, but now I know what it's called. And it's got a cool name.
I'm finding Google images a helpful supplement to Newcomb. Most of his illustrations are black-and-white line drawings and thus not quite true to life, so I tentatively identify something via Newcomb and then go confirm that identification by finding a photo of the same wildflower via Google.
