The Yager Cabin
Images courtesy of the Merrillville/Ross Township Historical Society.
Anna Yager spoke the truth when she said that her new husband, Fred, had brought her home to a log cabin instead of the comfortable, modern farmhouse she was expecting. Above is an photo (undated) of that cabin.
I recently came across that photo and the materials below in a scrapbook at the Merrillville/Ross Township Historical Society Museum. Someone had clipped an article from June 8, 1967 about that cabin being donated to the historical society and being dismantled for moving. (Whoever clipped that article did not include the name of the newspaper, so I can't credit it properly.)
The cabin was reportedly 130 years old in 1967, so it had been old already when Fred brought Anna home to it half a century earlier.
