He Has Laid Down His Shotgun Forever

Once again I am indebted to an obituary for information about a person's life. In this case, I learned that the "Jacob Kramer" I had encountered just southeast of Ainsworth on the 1891 plat map was indeed our shotgun-wielding friend Jacob Kramer, Sr. So the cow's avenger was once an Ainsworthite.

He owned all but two acres of the 80-acre parcel that by 1926 belonged to Christian Weiler:

On this image from the 1926 Plat Book, Jacob Kramer's first farm is outlined in red.

His obituary* doesn't say precisely when he purchased the Ainsworth spread, but apparently in 1894 he decided he liked Hobart better and bought some land just west of town. There he farmed, and also raised grapes and manufactured wine, and "bought and sold wine in large quantities." Sounds like fun.

He is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery.
