I scared up this moth while mowing the lawn, and when it landed again I photographed it with my cell phone.

I thought its markings were wonderful! Then I found out that it's called a Dingy Cutworm moth, and somehow its markings stopped being so wonderful. They ought to give it a better name.

I wonder how it got that name in the first place. I looked it up and apparently it's also known as the Bent-line dart. I'm not sure that's much better.
I imagine it's named after the larva, which is a dull-looking thing that cuts down young plants while feeding. That's really not fair; if we were all named after our characteristics as children, my name would be Sullen McLazypants.
Mine would have been "she who watches 6 hours of tv after school every day".
I just loved watching Gilligan's Island after school every day.
That was one of them I used to watch too.
