Checks written by George Rhodes during the 1920s. These came from Barnstaple, England. I have no idea how they ended up there.
I simply adore that bathroom illustration on the 1926 one.

This blog is quickly becoming the highlight of my day! What a find! Someone gave my father years ago a drain cover that has the name Lee & Rhodes Plumbing & Heating on it. He managed to find a round frame for it and it hangs on my wall at home. If it wasn't for that one small item, I wouldn't have known the business even existed.
It looks like George Rhodes might have been the financial half of this organization.
Where did you find them, if you don't mind me asking?
I just stumbled over these on eBay a couple weeks ago. Isn't that a weird coincidence?? And the seller was in Barnstaple, England. If you're interested in having these, just email me with your snail-mail address. Otherwise I'll see if the Hobart Historical Society wants them. I've checked their Hobart Businesses file and couldn't find anything there on Lee & Rhodes.
Yes, I would love to have them! I'll be more than happy to reimburse you! I had no idea items like this were sold on eBay. It's probably a good thing I didn't know so I can get some work done during the day.
I'll email my address.
Thanks!
